Self-motivation

The stronger a person is pestered with problems, the more stress he experiences. Man is an indivisible being that is why tense anxiety causes muscular tension. Such a person, even if not engaged in any acting he goes on feeling tired. And the more tired he is, the less he can do, and the more he starts to think why he has so little power, and what exactly wears him down. Thus he constantly works himself into a state, and day by day his health is getting from bad to worse.

Relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques help a person, adjusted to life in primeval forest, live a life in civilization. Despite the fact that the human lifestyle has totally changed over the last fifty thousand years, the basic physiological reactions remain the same. In a natural environment everything is solved rather easily: having got in a stressful situation, an individual resorts to tactics peculiar to all mammals: to escape or to aggression. And that requires physical activity and release of energy.

For millions of years, old physiological mechanisms have been ticking over and adrenalin has been almost pouring out of you. Many phenomena of modern life cause anxiety, increase the level of stress and ultimately lead to depression. Stressful situations happen in our lives almost every day. Stress awaits us not only at work but also in the street, in cafes, in our driving seats, and even at home. We can be under deadline pressure or listen to criticism from our bosses, settle financial matters, and solve everyday problems.

Very often you have no opportunity of stress relief by means of active physical relaxation such as firewood splitting or playing tennis. At best you will sit back with a colleague with a cup of coffee and cry on his shoulder. This is also a form of relaxation. Especially if your colleague expresses sympathy; and for your coffee, you use sugar-containing parasympathetic nerve regulation. In general, we tragically lack this.

People either suffer or resort to some simple and accessible means in search of relief. Often the name of the game is means, abuse of which results in harm to your health, such as alcohol, coffee, various pharmaceuticals, large doses of vitamins, and whatnot. Sleep or intensive physical activity can be recommended as effective and harmless methods. However, in many situations all these methods are unacceptable.

One of the ways to overcome internal stress and reducing stress is learning to relax. It is available to anyone. The ability to relax will come in handy not only for resolution of current tension state but also in many techniques fulfillment, which enables to know yourself deeper. All relaxation techniques are based on more or less conscious relaxation of muscles. If you lower the muscle tension, the tense anxiety reduces together with it, so a state of relaxation has a psychogenic effect, and brings many health benefits.

Once we think about possible troubles and our heart spontaneously starts beating harder and blood pressure raises, but we can bring the heartbeat back to normal – we just need to concentrate and to use our brain. The reaction of relaxation can counteract the reaction of "fight or flight", thus reducing harmful changes in the body caused by stress.

What result should we expect from the regular use of relaxation techniques?.

Do not worry; it will surpass all your expectations! Participants of anti-stress training note the following positive developments:
1- Reducing symptoms of stress and anxiety.
2- No negative emotions and thoughts, also no obtrusive fears and states.
3- Improvement of attention concentration and intensification of perception.
4- Immunity strengthening and sleep improving.
5- Increased efficiency and working efference.

Regular relaxation changes the chemistry of the organism - during the deep stage of relaxation our brain secretes endorphins, raising the spirits. Processes in the brain that occur during meditation are similar. Although the term "relaxation" is commonly used with relation to our body, and "meditation" is used with relation to the brain, both methods soothe and restore the balance of the "body-brain" system.

So, you just need to relax. At first glance, what could be easier? But you can hardly do it at once. To relax completely means to disconnect from the outside world, to remove the usual sound of TV or radio, to get away from your thoughts, and just to stay alone with the closest person - with yourself.

But surprisingly for many people, this quite simple experiment ends up with fiasco and in a few minutes, the mind settles to its usual mental chewing gum and starts chewing over current events or making plans for tomorrow. What's next? You are likely to become bored and you will habitually stretch your hand for evening paper or TV remote, and in a heartbeat, you will find yourself anywhere, but not "here and now". Perpetual escape from yourself will go on. But where to?

Relaxation is a very powerful method of combat stress, which also does not take much time. If relaxation becomes your habit, then you will be surprised by its results. The extraordinary surge of strength and liveliness comes after correctly performed relaxation. It takes only 10-20 minutes a day, but really, you will be able to save much more time.
